Speaking on the new Inside Track podcast, journalist Pete O’Rourke mentioned that Tottenham Hotspur are long-term admirers of Atletico Madrid midfielder Conor Gallagher. O’Rourke said, “Tottenham have a long-term interest in Conor Gallagher – they tried to sign him before he made that move to Atletico Madrid.

“It could be a smart move by Tottenham if they are looking to bring in a new midfielder, having missed out on Morgan Gibbs-White.

“He’s on a long-term contract, and if Atletico were to let him go, they’ll be looking to recoup a lot of the transfer fee they paid to Chelsea – it would be around £40million at least.

“Also, with Rodrigo De Paul having left Atletico Madrid, would Simeone be willing to let Gallagher go as well? I’ve got my doubts on that one.

“It’s a difficult deal to do, a lot will depend on Conor Gallagher. Does he fancy a return to the Premier League?

“It’s a deal that looks difficult to do for me, but I’m not surprised that Tottenham are looking at him to bolster that midfield.”

Gallagher’s Impressive Season In Spanish Football

Gallagher had a decent campaign at the Madrid club recently as he produced a handful of impressive displays for them at the centre of the park. The English talent scored four goals and grabbed six assists in 50 matches for Diego Simone’s side last season across all fronts.

His current contract at Atletico Madrid will expire in the summer of 2029, which could make it tough for Spurs to sign him on the cheap in this transfer window.

Should Tottenham Hotspur Boss Thomas Frank Go For Gallagher?

Gallagher is full of energy and running in the middle of the park. He loves a tackle and usually works hard for his team.

The English talent can shoot the ball with power from long range and can create some inviting chances for his teammates to score. He can score and create a few important goals for his side from midfield and has got some valuable experience in the Premier League.

Gallagher would bring more energy and dynamism to Tottenham boss Thomas Frank’s midfield department. He is good enough to compete for regular first-team football at the North London club.

At 25, Gallagher has his best years ahead of him, which makes him a worthy target for Spurs to pursue this summer. Therefore, Frank would be wise to go for a player of his quality in this transfer period.
