In a recent report, journalists Danny Rust and Dean Jones claimed that Tottenham Hotspur are eyeing a move for Bayern Munich midfielder Joao Palhinha. It has been stated that Spurs have made contact to land the Portugal international in this summer transfer window.

Palhinha’s Recent Season In German Football

Palhinha had an up-and-down campaign at the Bavarian club as he missed a lot of games due to injury but managed to shine at times for them in the middle of the park. The Portugal international featured in 25 matches for Bayern last season across all fronts.

The 30-year-old made 20 tackles, 13 blocks and four interceptions for the Munich outfit in the Bundesliga. He was excellent when distributing the ball from midfield after completing 92.4% of his attempted passes in league football (stats via fbref.com).

Palhinha’s current deal at the Bavarian club will run out in the summer of 2028 which could make it difficult for Tottenham to snap him up on the cheap in this transfer window.

Should Tottenham Hotspur Boss Thomas Frank Get Palhinha On Board?

Palhinha is a solid tackler of the ball and can scan the danger well to earn the ball back for his team inside his half. He usually puts his foot through the ball when needed and can even play his way out from midfield. Standing at 1.90m, Palhinha is a strong presence in the air as well.

The Portuguese talent remains an excellent passer of the ball. He already knows the Premier League well from his time at Fulham and won’t take much time to settle into life at Tottenham.

Palhinha would add more bite and steel to Spurs boss Thomas Frank’s midfield department. He is good enough to challenge for a regular starting place at the North London club as long as he can stay injury free next season.

At 30, Palhinha is still enjoying his prime which makes him a decent option for Tottenham to pursue in the short term. He would also help Spurs compete across all fronts over the next couple of years. Therefore, it makes sense for the London giants to get Palhinha on board in this summer transfer period.
