Sport Bild reports that Torino wishes to organize a new loan for RB Leipzig flop Eljif Elmas. The Bundesliga outfit spent €24m to acquire the North Macedonia international from Napoli in January 2024. In a full calendar year with the German Red Bulls, Elmas made just 16 league appearances and never managed to get his name on the scoresheet.
Leipzig loaned Elmas back out to the Serie A last spring. The 25-year-old was able to net four goals for I Granata in the second half of the campaign. In the process, the attacker raised his estimated market value up a tick from €12m to €14m. Torino obviously wished to retain Elmas’ services, but weren’t ready to pull a reported €18m purchase option.
As is often the case with such arrangements, salary concerns are also an issue. Elmas is reported to earn €6m annually under his current Leipzig contract. Torino doesn’t wish to pay this in full. RB wish to get their transfer flop off the payroll permanently. It is such that – Sport Bild reports – the German club wants to sell Elmas for a shade under the purchase option.
Leipzig’s current asking price is €17m. Elmas himself will surely have to agree to a pay cut if he wishes to move to the Serie A permanently. Many factors must be resolved in order to complete the move. For the moment, a fresh loan deal appears to be off the table.
