Chelsea are optimistic Liam Delap will choose to join them if they decide to proceed with a move for the striker according to Ben Jacobs.
The Blues have paid the price for not signing a striker over the last two transfer windows and both Nicolas Jackson and Marc Guiu picked up injuries on deadline day against West Ham.
Jackson is expected back from his hamstring injury after the international break, whilst it’s unclear when Guiu will return, with Enzo Maresca left facing a striker crisis.
Maresca has stumbled across a solution with Pedro Neto having success down the middle over the last two games and the Portugal international has two goals and an assist in his new role.
David Ornstein has reported he expects Chelsea to sign a striker this summer, and the Blues have been linked with Delap and RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko, but they face competition from Arsenal for the 21-year-old.

Jacobs has provided an update on Chelsea’s pursuit of Delap and shared the Blues are optimistic about their pursuit of the Ipswich striker.
He wrote in his GIVEMESPORT column:
“Chelsea still have Ipswich’s Liam Delap and Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko on their radar. Chelsea are optimistic Delap will choose to join if they proceed, while with Sesko they face firm competition from Arsenal.”
Delap came through the ranks at Manchester City and played under Maresca in the team which won the Premier League 2 title, with Cole Palmer and Romeo Lavia also part of that side.
The striker has scored ten goals in 26 Premier League appearances, and put in a dominating performance against the Blues earlier in the campaign.

Maresca was full of praise for Delap earlier in the season, and the Blues are believed to have sent scouts to watch the Englishman in Ipswich’s defeat to Tottenham last month.
Delap is believed to be available for around £40m, but if Ipswich get relegated there could potentially be a very good deal to be had.
