According to a new update from SPORT, it was super agent Jorge Mendes who personally offered Inter Milan’s Denzel Dumfries to Barcelona.

Mendes informed the Catalan club that the Dutch defender has a special €25 million release clause valid until July 15, which could allow Barça to secure him for a reasonable price if they move quickly.

It is to be noted that Dumfries has become a topic of conversation at Barcelona in recent days, and as it turns out, the Dutchman would be open to playing for the Catalans ‘with his eyes closed’.

Although signing a new right-back is not the club’s top priority at the moment, both the sporting directors and new manager Hansi Flick admire the Inter defender.

Dumfries open to Camp Nou switch

Barcelona have been evaluating their options for a right-back for weeks, and Dumfries is now firmly on their radar thanks to Mendes’ push.

It is said that Flick is keen on adding a specialist right-back who is strong, experienced, and capable of adding depth and stability to the defensive line.

Dumfries, who scored 11 goals and provided six assists last season, perfectly fits the profile Flick is looking for, and the fact that his salary demands are considered reasonable makes him an attractive option.

The timing is off

As it turns out, timing could be an issue for the Catalan giants. Barcelona are focused on solving other priorities in the squad first, and the club’s financial situation means they must be careful with spending.

Despite this, Mendes has assured Barça that Dumfries’ €25 million clause is a unique opportunity, and he believes the defender will still be on the market even after the July 15 deadline, although the final price could rise slightly.

Meanwhile, Inter Milan are undergoing major changes following the departure of Simone Inzaghi.

They are open to selling key players to reshape the squad, and Dumfries’ exit could help fund their new project.

For what it is worth, Dumfries himself is reportedly eager to join Barcelona and would happily swap Milan for Camp Nou without hesitation.
