Inter Miami put on a show on Wednesday night and defeated Tigres 2-1 for the quarterfinals of the Leagues Cup. With this victory, Javier Mascherano started to showcase his ability in crucial games.

With an impressive first half, the Herons stop every movement of the Tigre’s players, controlling Angel Correa.

But the Heron’s second half showed signs of fatigue, and that’s when Tigres took the ball and started attacking Oscar Ustari’s goal.

Still, Inter Miami did a great job, and that’s why, from InterHeron, these are our two takeaways from Inter Miami's 2-1 victory against Tigres.

Relentless pressure

Unbelievable what we witnessed on Wednesday night. Never seen the Herons so determined to recover the ball that fast.

From Suarez to Falcon and Lujan, everyone was on the same page once the Uruguayan striker started to run. Everyone shut down the passing options and advanced up the pitch together.

That’s why you could watch Fray and Alba alongside Segovia and Allende, and Lujan and Falcon near Bright and Busquets in the midfield.

That pressure caused the opponents to hesitate with their passes, forcing them to play the ball back to Guzman.

And with that simple movement, pushing the lines higher, Inter Miami controlled the pace of the game and always had ball possession.

Deadly counterattack

The best feature from Inter Miami’s game. Javier Mascherano realized that setting a low defensive block and using Fray, Segovia, De Paul, or Allende was the best option to hurt Tigres. And he wasn’t wrong.

As we told you two days ago, Tigres have offensive fullbacks, leaving Inter Miami plenty of space to attack from the wings once they recover the ball.

The first 45 minutes, Miami’s game was about that. Bright finds the ball and, without hesitation, sends a pass to Fray, with plenty of meters to run before a rival comes close.

Although the goals were from penalty kicks, Inter Miami had many chances to break the tie and win the game. All because of the deadly counterattacks the Herons produce.
