What an incredible 2024/25 season for Newcastle United.
So much to talk about and I’m sure we all will in these next eleven weeks as we suffer without any competitive NUFC football.
A perfect time then to kick things off, get the discussion going on what we have all just enjoyed.
What are your best moments of the Newcastle United season just ended.
I have gone through the whole 2024/25 season and picked out my 20 favourite moments.
Not my 20 favourite matches.
Instead, my 20 very favourite Newcastle United moments.
In no particular order, here you go…
The final whistle at Wembley on 16 March 2025.
What a cross and what a header as Gordon sends the ball over in the 12th minute as Newcastle win 1-0 at home to Arsenal in November.
Newcastle battered Ipswich 4-0 just before Christmas but it was that Murphy assist for Isak that stood out, outstanding.
Boxing Day and a knockout blow for Villa inside two minutes, a quality team move BUT what a superb finish from Anthony Gordon to set us on our way.
A tough and tight Premier League home match after the Wembley triumph and international break, many people predicting United to fade in the league having won a trophy. This game against Brentford seemingly heading for a 1-1 draw and two dropped points. Then in the 74th minute Sandro Tonali did THAT!!!
United headed to Old Trafford on 30 December 2024 and absolutely battered Man U, Joelinton heading home on 19 minutes to make it 2-0. That should have led to a truly serious scoreline but what a moment that rounded off an exhilarating opening spell of football.
United keep on going despite everything going against them, the fourth last match and a key last minute equaliser at Brighton as Isak keeps his cool.
Joelinton scoring (the winning goal) just before half-time on the opening day of the season, United down to 10 men for most of that Southampton match.
Two goals up from the semi-final first leg and United battering Arsenal at St James’ Park but always the fear that the goal(s) won’t come and the Gunners somehow get back into this. Then on 19 minutes Murphy scores and that moment I knew we were going to Wembley.
Alexander Isak scoring (what proved to be the winning goal) at Wembley, only a minute after he had one disallowed.
The club announce on 25 April 2025 that Eddie Howe has been able to return to work after serious illness (United pick up seven points from the next three PL matches).
Our massive game in hand against Palace, a must win before Villa away. United 1-0 up after a brilliant Murphy strike, only for a harsh penalty to be awarded, Pope making a brilliant save as Eze froze, the Newcastle keeper having the bottle not to dive early and allow an easy finish to equalise.
A brilliant performance in December where United deserved to beat Liverpool, yet after leading 1-0 and 2-1 Newcastle found themselves 3-2 down. An outrageous Fabian Schar 90th minute finish rescuing a massive point and a huge confidence booster at a nervous time.
Sandro Tonali gives United the lead inside two minutes in that must win match against Chelsea in the third last game of the season.
