Inter and Milan are likely to face off in the Supercoppa Italiana final on Monday without their stars Marcus Thuram and Rafael Leão, although the Rossoneri are more hopeful than their rivals to bring their forward at least on the bench.

On the other hand, Simone Inzaghi was forced to replace Thuram with Mehdi Taremi mid-way through their Supercoppa semifinal against Atalanta, and he is expected to undergo medical tests on Saturday afternoon in Riyadh.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Leao is set to hold an individual training session on Saturday to test his fitness ahead of the Supercoppa Italiana final, but it is ‘almost impossible’ that he is fit enough to start for Sergio Conceição’s side on Monday.

The Rossoneri hope to be able to rely on him as a second-half substitute in case they need an offensive boost in the final minutes of the game.

Inter also want to be prudent with Thuram – while they are confident that he hasn’t sustained any major injury, further medical exams are needed to assess the extent of the problem and understand how risky it can be to accelerate his return to the pitch.

However, chances to see him start alongside Lautaro Martinez are extremely slight, as Taremi is expected to take his place in the starting XI.
