Borussia Dortmund has scored four goals in a single game. Yes, you have heard it right. If you had told that to any BVB fan a few weeks back, they would probably assume you were crazy or, at best, think you come from an alternate universe where BVB scores goals. Since Kovač decided to change the scheme to a back-three, the Black and Yellows seem to have finally gotten in good shape, as they beat Wolfsburg 4-nil at Signal Iduna Park.
With the Wolves in a lethargic form and winless since March 1st, Dortmund did not need to do much to come out of this match with the three points. After Guirassy scored the first goal only a few minutes in, Borussia Dortmund struggled a little in the first half, forcing the game through the flanks when there was space in the middle.
At the second stage, however, things changed, and BVB opened Pandora's Box for the Wolves. With Serhou scoring his second early into the half, Wolfsburg looked beaten already, which allowed the star substitute Karim Adeyemi to score two bangers that sealed the match for the Yellow Wall. Now, with two games left, BVB kept their European and even Champions League aspirations more alive than ever. Here are three takeaways from Dortmund's massive 4-nil win over Wolfsburg:
Following his stellar season at Stuttgart, BVB paid his 18.5 million euros release clause to have Serhou Guirassy's services at the Westfalenstadion. The Guinean had some fans suspicious since he had his best season at only 28 years old, and were nervous about whether he could repeat the same success he had in Red and White to Black and Yellow. However, his highly goal-scoring season at Stuttgart was not just a fluke.
Serhou Guirassy scored 32 goals in the 2024/2025 season for Borussia Dortmund until this moment in time; numbers that truly speak for themselves. Guirassy proves game in and out that he can deliver the goals Borussia Dortmund needs to reach glory. And, despite a few bad moments, like the Barcelona first leg, and his issue with holding the ball for too long, BVB fans know that if he is in front of the opponent's goal, Guirassy is one of the most lethal strikers in Europe.
Karim Adeyemi had an immediate impact once coming in the second half. When I was covering the match on X, I commented briefly on the need for Adeyemi to come in. With fewer spaces for Jamie Gittens to break into Wolfsburg's defense, the game called for someone fast and effective in central areas. That man was, indeed, Karim Adeyemi.
I don't like to brag, but in this case, I feel the urge to say 'I told you so.' Karim Adeyemi also scored two golaços, and what seemed to be an easy game already became a walk in the park for Borussia Dortmund. And, as much as Gittens has improved a lot this season and his playing time could be related to boosting his pricetag for the summer, Adeyemi cannot be benched in the past two matches. Karim "The Dream" Adeyemi is simply the perfect scheme fit for the team right now.
Pascal Groß has been a key piece for Borussia Dortmund in this run of good matches. Since Niko Kovač joined BVB, the German international seems to have finally flourished in Black and Yellow, becoming a central component of the midfield.
With a beautiful assist to Guirassy's second score of the day, Groß made his signature cut move, taking three Wolfsburg defenders out of their senses and making life way too simple for the Guinean striker. His experience and consistency in possession are a great combination that adds an extra layer of danger to Dortmund's attack dynamics, but, overall, I am glad that Groß is at last finding a reason to smile at Signal Iduna Park.
"If you are not the fastest, you have to buy yourself time. The move gives me the space to cross, pass, or shoot. [...] I often drove home and thought to myself: This cannot be true. Now I go home with a good feeling more and more often."Pascal Groß
