January is expected to be a massive month for FC Barcelona, both on and off the field. In many ways, it could be a season-defining start to the year given the kind of things at stake. Unfortunately for Barcelona, however, developments have not looked too promising so far.
For starters, it must be kept in mind that Barcelona will be playing in four different competitions starting this month. The first challenge will come in the form of UD Barbastro in the Copa del Rey, then Athletic Club in the Spanish Super Cup, as well as UEFA Champions League clashes against both SL Benfica and Atalanta, and two La Liga fixtures as well.
However, beyond just the challenges that the team will face on the pitch, there is an entirely different matter that remains unresolved away from it as well. With both Dani Olmo and Pau Victor currently being unregistered, there is no telling what the future may hold for both Spaniards moving forward.
According to Mundo Deportivo, however, there are three possible scenarios that could end up happening at the current rate. One of them is incredibly likely, another is rather possible, and the last option is a highly unlikely outcome that would be quite beneficial to Barcelona if it were to happen.
The first scenario that looks to be the most likely outcome from this saga is that both Dani Olmo and Pau Victor remain unregistered. La Liga will likely stand firm on the original decision it made, and the RFEF does not have the same level of authority in terms of player registrations.
Moreover, with players being unable to be re-registered by the same club during the same season, both players will then potentially have to look for alternative clubs to play for during the rest of the season.
Another scenario that could be possible for Barcelona is for La Liga to approve and validate the revenue generated from the sale of VIP seats, which in turn would allow the club to possibly return to the 1:1 rule. Consequently, they could be allowed to operate more freely and bring in new signings but be unable to register Dani Olmo and Pau Victor due to the pre-existing regulations.
The last scenario is one that would be the most beneficial one for Barcelona but it is also the most unlikely one. In this scenario, La Liga would allow the club to register both of the Spanish players but it could create an entirely new issue as well. As an unprecedented occurrence, it could lead to other clubs asking questions and potentially even taking further action.
