Only a few months into the 2024-25 season, Hansi Flick’s arrival at FC Barcelona is already turning out to be a success. The Blaugranes are playing a highly entertaining brand of football, and are also leading the La Liga table with six points at the moment.
The Catalans have also proven their mettle against some of the biggest sides in Europe, and only in the last month, they were able to come out victorious against opponents as difficult as Bayern Munich and Real Madrid.
The latter match was particularly memorable for the Cules as they won an El Clasico after some time, and the favorable scoreline of 4-0 was also highly encouraging for Flick’s team.
However, there were some ugly episodes in that game as well, as the Barcelona players Raphinha, Ansu Fati, and Lamine Yamal had to face racist abuse from some of the fans at the Santiago Bernabeu. Authorities had taken notice of that undesirable episode, and investigations were underway against the perpetrators of this abuse.
In this regard, Mundo Deportivo reports that three of the involved individuals have been arrested by the National Police, according to an official police statement.
The detainees had made discriminatory statements and gestures imitating primates directed at the Barcelona players. Barcelona, Real Madrid, and La Liga had all lodged complaints regarding this matter.
These three individuals were identified through the images that have been widely circulated on social media. Real Madrid had already announced measures against these fans, but it remains to be seen whether there will be a partial closure of the Santiago Bernabeu as was the case with Mestalla in a similar previous occurrence.
Hopefully, such stern measures will continue to be taken against all the involved individuals in such hate crimes, and football will remain a force that unites people instead of creating more divisions.
