It’s been nearly three months since it was announced that Thomas Müller’s expiring contract with Bayern Munich would not be extended.
The 35-year-old has made it clear all along that he’d like to keep playing, but he still hasn’t found his next club.
Speaking to DAZN, Müller has now opened up the possibility of retiring from football if he can’t find the right fit.
“It’s actually quite simple: the overall package has to be right. At the same time, that’s tricky - what does the right package look like?” Müller explained, adding:
“Maybe I’ll just retire. Everything is still possible, and I’m not stressing about it.”
However, Müller also made it clear that he feels in good physical shape, still enjoys playing football, and “would definitely like to keep playing.”
Where he’ll continue his career remains wide open. He’d like to “discover something new” and would prefer a “more distant or exotic” league over staying in Germany’s top flight.
“I really don’t have that in mind,” he said of a possible stay in the Bundesliga.
When asked about reports linking him with MLS side Inter Miami, Müller replied:
“Basically, I wouldn’t mind playing with [Lionel] Messi, but I don’t have any direct contact with Miami right now.”
Müller could play his potentially last-ever game for Bayern Munich when they face Flamengo in the round of 16 of the Club World Cup on Sunday.
