FC Barcelona played at the Montjuic for perhaps the last time as they faced Villarreal in their penultimate La Liga game of the 2024-25 season.
The Blaugranes were unable to get a win in this game and suffered a 2-3 defeat, despite having overcome the early goal scored by the Yellow Submarines in the first half.
However, this defeat did not seem to sting the Catalans too much, as they celebrated their La Liga win with their fans after the match. The team was presented with the league title by the RFEF President, Rafael Louzan.
Thus, this was a special night for all the Barcelona players and fans, but one player for whom this was an even more special game was the goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen, who returned to play in his own stadium for the first time since recovering from the serious knee injury that had kept him out of action for almost the entirety of the season.
As Mundo Deportivo has reported, the Blaugrana captain also talked to the media after this game. The German expressed his happiness at winning another title with Barcelona:
“These are moments when you enjoy like never before. I’ve already won some titles with this club, but this title has been very special. It fills all of us with a lot of happiness… I’m happy to be back on the pitch, and it’s always better when lifting titles.”

Ter Stegen also expressed his happiness for his compatriot Hansi Flick for his successful first season:
“The players have tried to do exactly what he was asking of us… very happy for him because he’s had a great season.”
Despite the league win, the goalkeeper was sorry for being unable to make it to the UEFA Champions League final:
“We were so close… we deserved a bit more this year in the Champions League. It’s a shame, but that doesn’t take away from the fact that we had a spectacular season. This badge demands the maximum and hopefully we can celebrate more with the fans. Next year we’re going for more.”
Although he was unable to help his side maintain its unbeaten streak in La Liga, this would have still been a memorable night for Ter Stegen. For now, it remains to be seen what his role in the team will be in the upcoming season, as Barcelona are trying to tie down Wojciech Szczesny for another season, while also being linked with some exciting goalkeepers in the market.
