In an interview with Le Parisien, Robert Lewandowski (35) praised the changes at Paris Saint-Germain. The French champions over the past two seasons have placed a greater emphasis on the bigger picture rather than the bigger name.

In particular, the transfer of Vitinha (24) in 2022 from Porto has been held up as the moment that the club changed its focus from bringing in an array of stars from across Europe to prioritising players that could help bring balance to the squad.

The result has seen a far more balanced team in the French capital, and for the first time in two seasons, the club was able to progress beyond the Round of 16 in the Champions League, even breaking a French record when they managed to overturn a first-leg deficit to eliminate Barcelona.

‘I like how midfielders, like Vitinha, have evolved’ – Robert Lewandowski

A history-making effort that Lewandowski was on the wrong side of. Despite his disappointment in being eliminated in the quarter-finals, the Polish international was keen to express his admiration for the project building in Paris. “I like how midfielders, like Vitinha, have evolved. They have two to three young offensive players who have improved a lot.”

Lewandowski points towards the change in transfer policy as being behind this, “I think PSG has the future ahead of them, even if Kylian Mbappé leaves. I think this club will continue to be in the Champions League and will be dangerous for any team in Europe.”
