FC Barcelona’s away trip to Getafe last night ended in a 1-1 draw. It was everything that one anticipated before the game with the Madrid-based side resorting to all kinds of dirty antics to ensure they killed the flow of the game.
Jules Kounde scored very early into the game, a goal after ages for Barcelona in this stadium, and getting a lead against Getafe is a very rare thing. However, Hansi Flick’s men failed to maintain the advantage, as they allowed their opposition to equalize.
Once the game went into 1-1 territory, it was right back where Getafe wanted it to be, and they held Barcelona to that scoreline until the very end. One moment that was controversial in the second half around the 81st-minute mark was a shirt tug on Jules Kounde that should have been a penalty.
When asked about the same in his post-match press conference as quoted by Mundo Deportivo, Hansi Flick admitted that the whole experience of visiting the stadium itself was something he had never experienced before. He said:
“There was a lot of emotion in this stadium and in every complicated action. I’ve never experienced anything like this—it’s new to me. I’m not happy with what happened today, but we must already think about the next match and try to stay positive.”
The entire Getafe fanbase along with the support staff and the way the players themselves played ensured that they created a very hostile environment for the visiting team and Hansi Flick might not have seen this before.
However, to anyone watching Spanish football for a long time, this would have come as no surprise. Jose Bordalas has made this way of playing the game his own reputation and it looks like he wants to keep hold of it for as long as possible.
It remains to be seen if Barcelona can return to winning ways in La Liga when they face Valencia at home next weekend. It is high time they do if they harbor any hopes of winning the title this season and let’s wait and see how it plays out.
