Diego Simeone seems to have taken Atletico Madrid out of the running to sign Ismael Bennacer by claiming that their squad is complete, barring any late surprises.

Bennacer’s Milan fate remains up in the air on deadline day, and a journalist has claimed that Atletico Madrid have enquired about him. He trained with the rest of the squad today on the eve of the Lazio match, but has not travelled with the team which has only fuelled the exit rumours.

During the press conference on the eve of the match against Athletic Bilbao, Atletico Madrid head coach Diego Simeone took stock of the transfer market a few hours before the closing gong, with his comments relayed by PianetaMilan.

“Barring any surprises, everything is fine, the team is complete,” he said when asked about the idea of further players coming in. It appears to be a sign that their window is closed, something which could mean that Marseille now have a clear path to sign the Algerian.

The official stance from the club regarding Bennacer’s absence tomorrow is a stomach bug, but with a few hours left in the transfer window it could well be a precursor to some late movement that might also see Adrien Rabiot arrive.
