Manchester City and Palermo have confirmed their starting lineups ahead of today’s Anglo Palermitan Trophy clash. The match is Manchester City’s final friendly before they begin the new Premier League season. Pep Guardiola’s side will take on Wolverhampton Wanderers at Molineux next weekend to start the new campaign. The hope is that Manchester City can get a solid performance in today against Palermo to build into the new season.
There is a host of players unavailable for today’s match for Manchester City. Rodri, Phil Foden, Josko Gvardiol, and Claudio Echeverri were all deemed not fit enough to play. Marcus Bettinelli, Kalvin Phillips and Mateo Kovacic are all injured. Jack Grealish, James McAtee and Stefan Ortega didn’t travel with the City squad. All three players are expected to leave Manchester City before the transfer window shuts.
Despite the absentees, there is a strong look to the Manchester City squad for today’s match. Divine Mukasa was selected in Manchester City’s travelling squad. Whether or not he gets on the pitch is a stroy to watch for. Mukasa is a special talent. His selection in City’s squad at only 17 years of age emphasises this fact.
Here are the starting lineups for today’s match.
Pep Guardiola has selected a strong starting eleven for today’s match. James Trafford starts in goal. It will be fascinating to see how he goes in his first start since returning to the club from Burnley.
At the back, the centre-back pairing of Abdukodur Khusanov and John Stones is full of promise. Stones brings the poise and composure in possession that Manchester City needs. Khusanov could become a vital player for Manchester City this season.
There is a youthful look to Manchester City’s midfield. Nico gets his chance to play as a number six. He is more than capable of playing that role. Nico O’Reilly slots into his preferred position. The assumption is that Rayan Cherki will play as a number ten and drift all over the pitch.
Up front, Erling Haaland, Oscar Bobb and Omar Marmoush start. That front three is packed with quality.
