Real Madrid stalwart Lucas Vazquez will leave the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu this summer as a result of Trent Alexander-Arnold's arrival, a report has revealed.
The Liverpool defender announced his decision to leave his boyhood club on Monday and he's destined to join Madrid on a free transfer when his contract expires at the end of June. The Spanish giants are even interested in acquiring him before the upcoming FIFA Club World Cup.
It's been assumed for some time that Alexander-Arnold was Madrid-bound, with the England international not following in the footsteps of Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk in penning new terms with the Premier League champions.
Madrid have long sought defensive reinforcements after an injury-hit campaign and were reportedly keen to sign Alexander-Arnold in January following Dani Carvajal's season-ending ACL injury back in October.
Alexander-Arnold and Carvajal will now compete for minutes in the Spanish capital next season but they will not be joined by long-term Madrid servant and academy graduate Vazquez.
That's according to Spanish publication AS, who have revealed that Vazquez will depart Madrid this summer when his contract expires. The 33-year-old signed a one-year contract extension last year and has been a useful presence this term in Carvajal's absence, but it appears he will be heading out the exit door imminently.
Vazquez teamed up with Madrid's youth academy back in 2007 at 16 years old and has since gone on to make 397 appearances for the senior team. Starting his career as a winger, he's been moulded into a right-back during recent years.
But Alexander-Arnold's arrival ensures the Madrid hero is now surplus to requirements and will leave for free when his current deal expires at the end of June.
