Career Mode has been revamped in EA FC 25 and long-term fans of the franchise will be keen to get stuck into a new game.

Choosing the right team can be a thankless task, but we’re on hand with five of the best teams to start with on EA FC 25 Career Mode. For the first time, players can manage top women’s teams from European leagues and America’s NWSL, while there’s been an overhaul on tactics and press conferences.

Without further ado, here are five EA FC 25 Career Mode teams to consider.

The best teams to start with on EA FC 25 Career Mode

Birmingham City

Birmingham endured a disastrous season last term with the ill-fated appointment of Wayne Rooney leading to relegation to League One. The Blues are in the third tier for the first time since the mid-nineties but that has not dulled the optimism at St Andrews.

Backed by American investment that includes NFL legend Tom Brady, Birmingham have made the most of looser financial rules in League One to splash the cash. The Midlands side smashed the third-tier transfer record to sign Jay Stansfield from Fulham, setting spending records throughout the summer to build a squad that is odds-on favourites for promotion.

The Championship is far from the ceiling of their ambitions, however, and there will be plenty of Birmingham fans dreaming of a return to the top tier and challenging high-flying rivals Aston Villa.

Ipswich Town

Ipswich Town returned to the Premier League this season after a 22-year absence, with Kieran McKenna leading The Tractor Boys to back-to-back promotions.

The gap between the second-tier and top-flight has arguably never been bigger and all three promoted teams were relegated last season.

Can you buck that trend and take Ipswich back to the dizzying heights of the early noughties? After winning promotion in 1999/2000 under George Burley, Ipswich ended the following season fifth in the Premier League to secure UEFA Cup football. Can you match that achievement?

AS Roma

Serie A has been one of Europe’s most interesting leagues in recent seasons, with four different winners in the last five seasons. While Juventus, AC Milan, Inter Milan and Napoli have all taken turns lifting the Scudetto, the capital clubs have struggled to keep up.

Roma have not won the title since 2001, while it’s now six straight seasons outside Italy’s top four for I Giallorossi. A tough start to the current campaign has dampened the mood after an exciting summer in the transfer window. Matias Soule is a player of real potential, while Artem Dovbyk – the leading scorer in La Liga last season – arrived from Girona.

Valencia

Revitalising a fallen giant is one of the favourite challenges for Career Mode fans and taking Valencia back to the top presents a real task.

Financial issues have decimated Los Ches in recent years, who haven’t finished higher than 9th in La Liga for five seasons. It’s a stark contrast to the early noughties, when Valencia reached two Champions League finals, won La Liga titles in 2002 and 2004, and claimed a UEFA Cup. It might be a long-term project to restore Valencia’s status among Spain’s superpowers, but there’s a decent core of young talent to build around.

Arsenal women

For the first time, Career Mode players can take charge of women’s teams in EA FC 25.

Chelsea are the reigning superpower in the Women’s Super League, though Arsenal are hoping to challenge their capital rivals in 2024/25. Despite losing WSL record scorer Vivianne Miedema in the summer, the Gunners boast England Lionesses Leah Williamson, Beth Mead and Alessia Russo in their ranks.

Can you take the North Londoners to English and European glory? Arsenal are the only English team to have won the Women’s Champions League, in 2006/07.
