The Women’s Super League gets underway in just over two weeks, and here we take a look at the 10 players with the most appearances in WSL history.

Only two players have crossed 200 appearances in the WSL, though two more players could be added to that list during the 2025-26 season.

The player who tops the list no longer plays in the English top-flight, meaning that the record could be broken in the upcoming campaign.

Here we list the 10 players with the most WSL appearances in the competition’s history.

Women’s Super League: Players with the most WSL appearances

=9. Jill Scott – 175

Jill Scott racked up 175 appearances before retiring as a footballer after helping England win their first trophy at Euro 2022.

Her club career is best known for her time at Manchester City, where she won the WSL title back in 2016.

The midfielder scored 22 goals and also helped City win three FA Cups and three WSL Cups.

=9. Angharad James – 175

Also on 175 appearances is Welsh international Angharad James, who could have topped this list if it wasn’t for her spells in the National Women’s Soccer League.

In the WSL, James played for a host of teams including Bristol City, Notts County, Yeovil Town, Everton, Reading and Tottenham.

She currently plays her football in America for the Seattle Reign, but the 31-year-old could yet add to her tally if she decides to return to England.

8. Beth Mead – 176

Beth Mead entered the top 10 during the 2024-25 season, and could move into the top five this campaign.

The England star has made the majority of her WSL appearances with Arsenal. However, she did play 30 times for Sunderland in the top-flight before joining the Gunners in 2017.

7. Gilly Flaherty – 177

Gilly Flaherty is a huge part of the history of the Women’s Super League, scoring the first goal after its inception in 2011, and being a former record-holder of the most WSL appearances.

The former centre-back played for Arsenal, Chelsea, West Ham and Liverpool during her WSL career.

She won four WSL titles and seven FA Cups, before retiring at the age of 31 due to family reasons.

6. Steph Houghton – 178

Former Manchester City star Steph Houghton has just one more appearance than Flaherty, and both were inducted into the WSL Hall of Fame in 2024.

Houghton started her WSL career at Arsenal in 2011, but is more known for her time at Manchester City.

She captained the side for a decade, winning seven trophies, before retiring at the end of the 2023-24 season.

5. Sophie Ingle – 192

Sophie Ingle held the record for the most Women’s Super League appearances until the start of the 2024-25 season.

The Welsh midfielder played the majority of her WSL games at Chelsea, but also had spells at Liverpool and Bristol City.

She was unable to add to her tally last season due to an anterior cruciate ligament injury, and this summer returned to Bristol who are now in the second-tier of English football.

4. Laura Coombs – 193

Laura Coombs could reach the 200-game mark with just seven more appearances during the 2025-26 season.

The 34-year-old recently signed a one-year extension with City. She previously had WSL spells with Chelsea and Liverpool.

There is a chance that Coombs could top this list by the end of her season. However, her appearances slowed down last season, with just 11 for City in 2024-25.

3. Gemma Bonner – 197

Gemma Bonner also has a realistic chance of reaching the 200 club, as she needs just three more appearances to reach that tally.

Her WSL appearances have come with Chelsea, Manchester City and Liverpool, and recently signed a new extension with the Merseyside club.

She made 12 appearances during the 2024-25 campaign, a tally that would move her ahead of the player topping this list if she repeats that feat.

2. Millie Bright – 202

Chelsea captain Millie Bright made her 200th appearance during a victory over Crystal Palace in April.

Bright retired from international football just before Euro 2025 and will now solely focus on her club career.

The 31-year-old needs just seven appearances to surpass the current record holder for the most WSL appearances. This is a feat she will likely accomplish if she stays fit.

1. Jordan Nobbs – 208

WSL appearance record holder Jordan Nobbs recently joined WSL2 side Newcastle United

Jordan Nobbs holds the record for the most WSL appearances with 208 across spells at Arsenal and Aston Villa.

The England international spent 13 years in the WSL with Arsenal, before joining Aston Villa in January 2023.

The 2025-26 season will be the first WSL season ever without the midfielder, who has joined WSL2 side Newcastle United.

Therefore, it is likely that one of Bright, Bonner or Coombs will hold this record at the end of the season.
