Real Madrid winger Rodrygo has been somewhat squeezed out by the arrival of Kylian Mbappe at the club, and is looking for a move away.
A number of Premier League teams have been linked, including Chelsea, but none of if is very convincing. The problem, as Matt Law outlined while speaking to the London is Blue podcast this week, is that the Brazilian is on big wages already, and wants more to move.
Given Chelsea are looking more for up and coming talents to develop than established stars, this makes a move seem impossible, despite the impending sale of Noni Madueke.

“He is on huge wages and wants even bigger wages to move. There’s a massive fear among European clubs to commit to the sort of money it would take to sign Rodrygo. If it goes wrong with Rodrygo, you’re stuck with an enormous problem. Chelsea already have this problem in Raheem Sterling this summer,” Law explained.
“I don’t see Rodrygo [moving], I never have. I think if it’s a forward it will be, at the moment, Garnacho, if a forward space is freed up by [Nicolas] Jackson or [Christopher] Nkunku, then = if it’s Jackson to Villa, watch this space for Morgan Rogers.”

Chelsea fans are pretty keen to not sign Alejandro Garnacho, in the main. Morgan Rogers on the other hand would be a very popular move with a lot of supporters.
Neither of them seem close right now, simply because there is not much progress on selling the likes of Sterling or Nkunku. But things can happen very quickly and there’s a lot of summer left, so watch this space.
