It looks like a final conclusion to the Newcastle United and Benjamin Sesko situation is very close.
The Athletic reporting that talks were held throughout Monday between Newcastle United minority owner Jamie Reuben and Benjamin Sesko, as well as with RB Leipzig.
The Athletic’s David Ornstein saying this has seen an increased formal bid of a guaranteed €80m (approx £69.6m), this is up from the previous bid of a guaranteed €75m (approx £65.2m).
Sky Sports Germany report that the potential future add-ons have also increased from €5m (approx £4.35m) to €10m (approx £8.7m). Making it a total package of around €90m (approx £79.25m).
Meanwhile, Craig Hope of The Mail says that he has been told that for both Sesko and RB Leipzig the financial side of things has been satisfied. Hope says that it is hoped and expected that a final decision will be concluded today (Tuesday).
The position of Manchester United is the unknown factor. David Ornstein says that Man U still haven’t made any formal offer for Benjamin Sesko and that the kind of figures they had informally indicated previously they might be prepared to pay, are lower than that now offered by Newcastle United.
I think it is fair to say that it now appears Newcastle United have done everything they can in terms of trying to sign Benjamin Sesko. RB Leipzig using the situation to absolutely maximise the transfer fee on their star striker, an exciting but raw forward who has just turned 22 and since signing two years ago, has scored 39 goals in all competitions for Leipzig and managed eight assists in 87 appearances.
Whether they have said it or not, this certainly looks to be a final take it or leave it offer by Newcastle United, with it now down to Benjamin Sesko and RB Leipzig as to whether they take it. The fact Sesko was withdrawn from the squad to face Atalanta in Leipzig’s final home friendly of pre-season points to a likely departure and regardless of whether or not Man U make any kind of late intervention, Newcastle United have made a great offer which looks very likely to succeed. Hopefully.
