Bayer Leverkusen’s Jonathan Tah spoke to Kicker after last night's humbling 3-0 defeat at the hands of Bayern Munich in their Champions League last-16 tie.
The centre-half was critical of he and his team’s performance in the first-leg which leaves them with a mountain to climb ahead of next week.
“We weren’t intense enough and not aggressive enough in the duels and 50/50 balls,” the captain explained.
“We played many long balls, but won just a few of those 50/50 balls and didn’t get into out rhythm of play.
"[Bayern] adjusted their game. They didn’t give us the opportunity to press them like we did at home in our last game.
“They adjusted well and what they did worked well, but we were also unable to execute what we tried to do.
“Still, it wasn’t so extremely bad that we needed to lose 3-0. In the end, the goals came down to us putting the ball in our own net,” Tah explained.
Die Werkself must briefly switch their attention back to the Bundesliga and a meeting with Werder Bremen before trying to overturn a 3-0 goal deficit against Bayern the following Tuesday.
