A somewhat surprising member of the midfield ranks at Barcelona is leading all outfield players in La Liga when it comes to ball recoveries this season.

That’s according to Mundo Deportivo, who point towards Pedri as the player in question.

Midfielder Pedri, for his part, is of course in the midst of nothing short of a sensational individual campaign to date.

Having seemingly put his long-standing fitness woes firmly behind him, the 22-year-old has looked back to his brilliant best, standing out as one of world football’s best in his role.

Pedri, for the most part, has been lauded for his efforts on the ball, with the Spaniard’s dribbling and passing having been of an exceptional standard throughout the campaign.

As alluded to above, though, it is his endeavours when out of possession which have this weekend given rise to a head-turning statistic.

As revealed by MD, after recovering possession on 17 occasions during Barcelona’s comeback victory over Celta Vigo on Saturday evening:

‘Pedri’s tally has reached 209 ball recoveries in the league, a figure that makes him the leader in this statistical section in the competition excluding goalkeepers.’
