Sunderland have completed the signing of Republic of Ireland international goalkeeper Grace Moloney on a free transfer.

The Lady Black Cats announced the news via a post on their official club website this afternoon.

It has been reported that the 32-year-old stopper has signed a one-year deal on Wearside with the option of an additional year.

Moloney returns to Barclays WSL2 football six months on from leaving former club London City Lionesses by mutual consent. The keeper spent one-and-a-half seasons with The Pride. Moloney is best known for her time with former Barclays Women’s Super League club Reading. The player made more than 200 appearances for The Royals in a 14-year spell with the Berkshire club.

After adding Moloney to her squad, Sunderland boss Melanie Reay said “We are delighted to secure Grace’s signature and bring her north to Sunderland. She is an experienced goalkeeper, who has played at the highest level in Club football, and we receive her straight from the Republic of Ireland senior squad that has just toured the United States. She is ready to go and we’re looking forward to supporting her, as she settles on Wearside.”

Moloney is Sunderland’s third signing of the summer transfer window.
