Striker ‘agrees personal terms’ with Premier League club in deal that’s certain to have implications on United

Benjamin Sesko has reportedly signed off on an imminent move to Arsenal, all but confirming Viktor Gyokeres will not be granted his desired transfer.

Reports emerged in recent days detailing how Gyokeres had informed former Sporting Lisbon manager Ruben Amorim of his wishes to join the Gunners over Manchester United this summer, with Champions League football thought to be at the forefront of his decision-making process.

The Sweden international, however, was never Arsenal’s priority heading into the window. They had instead set their sights on RB Leipzig starlet Sesko, who poses as a younger and more exhilarating option.

Today, the Standard has claimed that Sesko has ‘agreed personal terms’ with the North London outfit and will now leave it in the hands of his club to negotiate the remaining terms of the prospective deal. In turn, it leaves Gyokeres back at square one as to where on earth he’ll end up by the time 2025/2026 gets underway.

Whilst Amorim would undoubtedly reap the opportunity to reunite with his ex-talisman at Old Trafford ahead of his first full season, he won’t have taken too kindly to Gyokeres’ initial snub.

In fact, the Red Devils boss was previously put on the spot regarding United’s interest in the striker and how their lack of UCL football could scupper their pursuit, after which he issued the perfect message in response.

“I didn’t talk to him,” said Amorim of Gyokeres. “But if a player only wants to come to Manchester United to play [in the] Champions League, then he won’t come. We want players who want to represent United, not players who want to play certain competitions.”

Whether INEOS chiefs would go over the coach’s head and revive talks remains to be seen. From their point of view, prolific centre-forwards are few and far between on the market this summer, and they’ve already been dealt an early blow after missing out on first-choice target Liam Delap.
