Stockport are closing in on a deal for Norwich's Brad Hills, who looks set for a move away from Carrow Road.

League One promotion hopefuls Stockport County are closing in on the late January addition of Norwich City defender Brad Hills.

That's according to Darren Witcoop, who claims that County are closing in on the youngster on a loan deal for the rest of the campaign.

Stockport have slipped well off the pace in the race for the top-two spots in League One, although that was always likely to be a tall order given the riches of some of their competitors, but their play-off spot is far from assured either, so recruitment is huge in this window.

That rings even truer when they've already had to watch Louie Barry get recalled by Aston Villa, so it could be argued that whatever happens in the closing stages of the window, Stockport will be in a weaker position.

All County can do in the absence of Barry is soldier on and make the best of a bad situation, and three successive wins to close out January's League One action shows they're capable of doing just that.

According to Witcoop, Hills will soon be in to strengthen their side, with a loan deal for a player who Norwich rate highly reportedly close.

Hills signed a new Norwich contract to extend his stay until the summer of 2027 a matter of months ago, in a huge show of faith from the Canaries to a player who has risen through the ranks at Carrow Road.

Hills enjoyed a successful spell in League Two with Accrington Stanley last season, and although he's struggled to make inroads into the Norwich first team, a move to get some more invaluable experience in men's football could help him breakthrough soon.

After the success of Barry, it's little surprise to see County scouring the loan market yet again this month, and Hills won't be the first loan player they've swooped for this month.

Stockport won the race to sign Middlesbrough's Micah Hamilton earlier this month, who was a real coup at League One level, and County will hope for similar success with Hamilton.

That rings true for Hills too, and if Stockport can get short-term gain out of players who will perhaps in time be playing regularly at a higher level in time to come, then their dream of back-to-back promotions isn't quite as far fetched as it seems.
