Standard Liege have announced the signing of 30-year-old striker Thomas Henry. The former OH Leuven man returns to Belgium after a few years in Italy, where he has spent time with Venezia, Hellas Verona and Palermo. Standard have been incredibly active in this window as Marc Wilmots puts together a squad that can get them back into being somewhat of a factor in qualifying for European football. So far, the signings have been positive.
Henry fills a much needed striker void at the club. They were one of the worst scoring sides in the league last season. During his previous spell in Belgium with OHL, Henry scored 21 goals in 33 games during the sides first season back in the top flight. He managed three goals in four games to start the 2021/2022 season before moving to Serie A. Henry has not had the same success in Italy as he did in Belgium. His best season was the first once in Venice, where he scored nine goals in 34 games. He only managed five goals in two seasons with Hellas Verona and just two goals in 25 games for Palermo.
Henry’s new deal with Standard will run for at least two season.
