Tottenham Hotspur are still looking to get deals done as we approach the last day of the January transfer window (even though it's already February.) The club finally managed to get a deal over the line when they brought in Austria and RC Lens central defender Kevin Danso, a fee which cost the Lilywhite's about twenty five million euros. With plenty of injuries still negatively impacting the squad in many key areas, manager Ange Postecoglu is still on the hunt for more players to see if they can get any last minute signature's signed.
After already trying theit luck with Italian giants AC Milan for England centre back Fikayo Tomori, it seems that Spurs have gone back to the Rossoneri to ask about a player, this time at the other end of the pitch. That is no surprise considering the likes of Brennan Johnson, Timo Werner, Wilson Odobert, James Maddison and Dominic Solanke are all still sidelined. The player that has caught the eye of Postecoglou is Nigerian right winger Samuel Chukwueze, after failing to agree a deal for Bayern Munich forward Mathys Tel, it seems the North Londoners have turned their attention to another attacking player who is surplus to requirements and their club and in need of game time.
For those of you who haven't heard of or watched Chukwueze play, he is a 25-year-old Nigeria international who had been capped 38 times by the Super Eagles since his debut in 2018, he is a left footed right sided player that likes to come inside onto his favoured foot and get plenty of shots on goal, but his biggest strength is his blistering pace so he can make the runs in behind a high line. Chukwueze signed for the Rossoneri in the summer of 2023 from Spanish side Villarreal, where he came through the academy after moving to Spain in 2017. Since making the twenty million euro move to Italy, he's found it hard to sustain a real place in AC Milan's side, starting only 21 games in Serie A in the year and a half he's been there, under three different managers in Stefano Pioli, Paulo Fonseca and Sérgio Conceição, so it's clear to see why he would want a move away.
He does however have some big game experience and has won a major trophy, being victorious with the Yellow Submarine in the UEFA Europa League in 2021, beating Manchester United in the final, and helping the club get to the UEFA Champions League semi-final the very next year, where he crucially came up clutch in the big moment, scoring the equaliser away at the Allianz Arena against Bayern Munich in the 88th minute.
Chukwueze's market value is said to be around eighteen million euros, although the Rossoneri could very easily charge more for the Nigerian, with it being so late in the window and the fact they still see him as a solid squad option could mean they would possibly be hesitant to let him leave without having time to find a replacement. It would be a solid pick up by the Lilywhites, he'd be a good option to start or bring off the bench when defences get tired and they won't want to face the unpredictability he brings to the table, but once again it seems Spurs have shot themselves in the foot by leaving it so late!
