Mauricio Pochettino has played down the possibility of a return to Tottenham Hotspur.
Spurs enjoyed some of their finest years in recent times during Pochettino’s tenure, with the Argentine guiding them to the Champions League final and four top-four finishes in the Premier League.
Despite the impressive job that he did at Spurs, however, Pochettino was never able to get his hands on any silverware.
Tottenham’s trophy drought was finally ended this season by Ange Postecoglou, who guided his side to the Europa League, but was sacked with Spurs having finished 17th in the Premier League.
It means Spurs are once again without a manager and Pochettino was asked about the possibility of a reunion with his former employers.
The 53-year-old, who is currently managing the United States national team, insisted: “Today it’s not realistic.
“Look where I am. Look where we are. The answer is so clear.”
No Tottenham manager has lasted more than two seasons since the Argentine left and it is not the first time that he has been linked with a return.
Pochettino admitted: “I think, since I left in 2019, my name has always been on the list.
“I’ve seen the rumours, we are 100 coaches on the list. Don’t be worried about that.”
He did not completely close the door on a return, however, adding: “If something happens, you for sure will see, but I am so happy in this moment and we cannot talk about this type of thing.”
The current front-runner for the Spurs job is Brentford’s Thomas Frank. The Danish manager has impressed with the west London side, taking them up from the Championship and keeping them in the Premier League for four straight seasons.
Fulham’s Marco Silva has also been strongly linked to the vacancy. Like Frank, he took Fulham up from the Championship and has established them as a mid-table side.
