Tottenham Hotspur have failed with a ‘major bid’ to sign Crystal Palace centre-back Marc Guehi.

The North Londoners are keen to bring in another centre-back before the 11pm transfer deadline but have been rebuffed in an approach to sign Guehi. Spurs signed Kevin Danso from Lens on Sunday but want to further bolster their defensive options before the window shuts.

However, The Athletic have revealed that Palace have turned down an approach for Guehi. The bid from Spurs follows Newcastle’s unsuccessful attempt to sign Guehi last summer. Newcastle’s final offer was understood to be in the region of £65m.

Guehi is expected to be a transfer target for a number of top clubs in the summer window. The 24-year-old has established himself as a regular with England in recent campaigns and impressed as the Three Lions reached the final of Euro 2024. He will have just 12 months remaining on his contract at Selhurst Park in the summer.

Guehi has made 138 appearances for the Eagles since signing from Chelsea in an £18m deal in 2021. Palace accept his value looks likely to decrease in the summer given the length of his contract but are reluctant to sanction the player’s sale late in the winter window.

Oliver Glasner’s side have already seen Trevoh Chalobah recalled by Chelsea from his loan spell, while fellow centre-back Chadi Riad is out for the rest of the season with a knee injury.
