The Saudi Pro League (SPL) announced the launch of its primary Corporate Social Responsibility initiative for the 2024-25 season in collaboration with the Ministry of Health. The initiative, aiming to raise awareness of the importance of blood donation, starts in Matchweek 9 of the Roshn Saudi League (RSL) and continues through until the end of the season.

The campaign targets fans at RSL matches with the aim of boosting awareness of the blood-donation drive and its role in the Kingdom, instilling the programme as a core value within the Saudi Arabian football community.

Speaking about the initiative, SPL Chief Executive Officer Omar Mugharbel expressed his pride in the role SPL plays within this nationwide initiative.

“We are not just supporting a donation campaign, but taking part in a vital national cause,” the CEO said. “We encourage our players and fans to stand together to make a life-saving impact. It is our responsibility to give back to the community that has always supported us. It is a source of pride to be part of this key initiative.”

The Ministry of Health, represented by the Forensic Medical Services Center – Blood Transfusion Center, aims to promote voluntary blood donation, especially among female donors, and spread a culture of blood donation and consistent visits to blood donation centres to ensure sustainable blood-bank reserves throughout the Kingdom.

To this end, the 2024-25 RSL season will see several community campaigns aimed at motivating football fans to contribute to blood-donation efforts, creating a more active social role for football in achieving national objectives.

The SPL continues to support social initiatives and awareness campaigns as part of its social responsibility aimed at making an impact beyond the football pitch that reaches the entire community.

Earlier this season, the SPL announced the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding with the Ministry of Health designed for launching blood-donation campaigns in conjunction with RSL matches. The partnership also aims to launch awareness programmes and educational campaigns at host stadiums across the RSL season.
