Southampton vs Manchester City LIVE
Man City head to the Premier League whipping boys this afternoon, bidding to take another huge step towards qualifying for next season’s Champions League. City have found some much-needed consistency at the right time to win four league games in a row and can move level on points with supposed runners-up-elect Arsenal with another today.
Erling Haaland is hoping for his first minutes since March, having returned to training following an ankle injury and with the FA Cup final to come next weekend, and Pep Guardiola has said his talisman is ready to start. It remains to be seen if he does, though, even if rotation is expected for what is likely their easiest test of the whole campaign.
Southampton are still playing for pride and need just a point from their final three games to avoid matching Derby’s all-time record-low points tally for a Premier League time, while another defeat - their 29th of the season - could match the same team’s unwanted record. So, a win for Man City today would move them level on points with Arsenal before the Gunners face Liverpool at Anfield.
After their, by most accounts, nightmare season, could they still finish above Arsenal? Yes.
City would also move six points clear of Nottingham Forest, who sit sixth. Forest face Leicester tomorrow, which one would assume they win.
