Irrespective of how Real Madrid end this season, there is a sure-shot uncertainty around the future of Carlo Ancelotti.

With the manager clearly struggling to make the best use of his available resources, especially Kylian Mbappe and the midfield, there is talk of the Italian tactician leaving in the summer.

Concurrently, there is chatter around a potential replacement for the coach and Xabi Alonso is seen as one of the most favoured options by the board.

Alonso dreams of the job

As revealed in a recent update by Matteo Moretto (h/t Madrid Xtra), there are many admirers of Alonso in the offices at Valdebebas.

In fact, some people close to the Bayer Leverkusen manager believe that he could leave at the end of the season and step into a journey with Real Madrid.

Alonso sees it to be his dream to coach ‘his’ Real Madrid and is up for the challenge.

As it stands, both Real Madrid and Bayer Leverkusen are focused on the season ahead and will stick with the existing managers. The clues, however, point to a change in June.

After taking Bayer Leverkusen to the Bundesliga title against all odds last season, Alonso’s side has again made a strong start to the season and sit in third place, just seven points below leaders Bayern Munich.

They have also got off to a good start in the UEFA Champions League as they sit on 10 points after five games and are placed in sixth place. Ancelotti’s Real Madrid, meanwhile, languish in 24th place.

The Italian coach has shown confidence that the team can get to the final of the competition, but as it stands, they will not even make the top eight and will have to fight for a place in the playoffs.
