Liverpool’s title push may be the main focus on the pitch, but off it, contract discussions involving key players continue to dominate the conversation. On Newsround from Anfield Index, Dave Davis broke down the latest developments surrounding Mohamed Salah and Ibrahima Konaté, with Salah’s agent Ramy Abbas stirring speculation on social media and Konaté admitting he is “flattered” by links to PSG and Real Madrid.
Salah’s future at Liverpool has been a major talking point for months, and while nothing official has been confirmed, there are signs that discussions are ongoing. Davis pointed to Abbas’ recent social media activity, particularly a post that suggested Salah may have agreed to a new deal.
“This was the key, wasn’t it? When a fan account tweeted and told Mo Salah has signed a two-year deal with a further one-year option to extend… that post was liked by Ramy Abbas.”
It was a small gesture, but one that immediately caught the attention of Liverpool supporters. Abbas, known for his cryptic approach on social media, has previously hinted at major developments in Salah’s career, making this like particularly intriguing.
Davis acknowledged that this could be a case of mind games, saying: “Maybe games, who knows? But a little Mo Salah contract announcement wouldn’t be a bad thing.”
With Salah still playing a pivotal role for Liverpool, securing his future would provide a major boost as the club looks to maintain stability under Arne Slot.
While Salah’s contract remains a mystery, Ibrahima Konaté’s future has also come into focus. The French defender has been linked with a potential move to European giants PSG and Real Madrid, and Davis highlighted his response to the speculation.
“We know PSG would love to get Konaté in their ranks because he’s a Parisian boy, what he would mean for them.”
Despite the rumours, Konaté has remained professional, but Davis noted that the defender has acknowledged the interest: “He was asked about this directly and said, ‘Yeah, it is flattering to be linked with the likes of PSG.’”

While being linked with clubs of that calibre is nothing new for Liverpool’s top players, the fact that Konaté has addressed it publicly suggests that there may be genuine interest from both parties. However, as things stand, he remains a key figure at Anfield.
As the title race intensifies, these contract situations could become a distraction. Davis stressed that Liverpool cannot allow them to derail their charge: “They can’t allow contracts to derail the charge… they really can’t.”
For now, Liverpool fans will have to wait and see how both situations unfold. But whether it’s Salah staying at Anfield or Konaté fending off interest from Europe’s elite, the club’s ability to retain its top talent will be crucial in the seasons to come.
