Already through to the knockout stages of the Club World Cup, Bayern Munich will aim to secure top spot in Group C when they face SL Benfica on Tuesday at 21:00 CET at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte, North Carolina.
After demolishing Auckland City 10-0 in their opener, Bayern claimed a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Boca Juniors, sealed by a late winner from Michael Olise.
Benfica, meanwhile, began their Club World Cup campaign with a 2-2 draw against Boca before taking an emphatic 6-0 win over Auckland City.
Bayern boast a dominant record against their Portuguese opponents, with Benfica winless in all 13 previous meetings between the two clubs.
The two teams last met in the league phase of the 2024/25 edition of the Champions League. Bayern won that game thanks to Jamal Musiala's winner.
Speaking ahead of the upcoming match, Bayern head coach Vincent Kompany made it clear that his side will not ease off despite already being through.
“We won’t calculate a lot. We’ll play to win,” Kompany said after the Boca match, adding that he wants his team to “go into the knockout stages with momentum.”
Jamal Musiala picked up a knock against Boca, but the German international trained fully on Sunday and is expected to be available. However, he's unlikely to be risked in the starting eleven.
Benfica remain without Andrea Belotti, who received a straight red card in their opening match and is suspended.
