Manchester United are among a host of clubs plotting a 2025 move for Bayer Leverkusen stalwart Jonathan Tah.

Indeed, the centre-half is attracting plenty of interest from top clubs across Europe due to his contract expiring with Leverkusen next June. Tah has already confirmed that he will opt against penning fresh terms, meaning he’s now in his final seven months at the club.

“I’m not going to sign a new deal at Bayer Leverkusen,” Tah asserted back in September. “My decision is made. I will give my best until the end here, and then we will see about my future club, but my decision is to go and try a different experience.”

The 28-year-old, whom Arne Slot recently hailed as ‘the best defender in Germany’, will therefore be available to open talks with foreign clubs in January regarding a summer move – or a permanent one if Leverkusen want to recuperate a fee from his departure.

Options are there if that were to be the case, too, as Real Madrid has now shortlisted Tah after integral starter Eder Militao sustained his second anterior cruciate ligament injury since August 2023.

The reigning European champions are considering making their move for Tah in the winter window to provide Carlo Ancelotti with some much-needed coverage in the backline for the second half of the term, with Sky Germany’s Florian Plettenberg claiming there’s ‘a real possibility’ Madrid submit an offer.

While the decision ultimately lies with Leverkusen, who will be unwilling to lose such a vital cog mid-season, it’d certainly be a difficult prospect to turn down for the German international.

Alas, United would then have to pursue alternative options heading into the summer. They, along with Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur, had already made an approach to Tah’s representatives to try and gauge his situation with the invincible Bundesliga winners.
