Among Manchester United’s lengthy list of forward targets is Hugo Ekitike, who’s now almost certain to be on the move this summer.
The ‘incredible’ Eintracht Frankfurt talisman has been linked with a host of clubs throughout his stellar campaign, with United confirmed to be one of his many admirers in recent months.
Now, according to Sky Sports Germany’s Florian Plettenberg, Ekitike has ‘informed’ the Frankfurt board of his desire to leave upon the culmination of 2024/2025.

A deal being finalised would see the forward’s Frankfurt tenure cut short just over 12 months after he became a permanent member of the squad; Ekitike initially arrived in Germany in February 2024 on loan from Paris Saint-Germain. Then, a month into his spell, the Bundesliga outfit activated his £13.8 million buy option and subsequently tied him down to a five-year contract.
Ekitike played a reduced role throughout his PSG tenure but has risen to stardom with Die Adler – particularly this season, which has seen the 22-year-old record a career-best campaign.
In his 48 appearances across all competitions (Bundesliga, Europa League and the DFL Cup), he has scored 22 goals and contributed a further 12 assists, making it no surprise Frankfurt are expected to demand around £84m to sanction their starlet’s exit much sooner than they’d envisioned.
Whether United will test Frankfurt’s resolve with a bid remains to be seen. It was confirmed yesterday that the Reds have made advancements in their pursuit of Matheus Cunha, who is ready to make the move to Old Trafford irrespective of whether they secure Champions League qualification with a Europa League final triumph on Wednesday.
However, the same cannot be said of first-choice No.9 target Liam Delap. He poses as a considerably cheaper option than Ekitike due to the £30m release clause in his terms with Ipswich Town, but is said to be prioritising the chance to play UCL football next season.
