We are only a month and a half away from the January mercato opening, and AC Milan are focusing elsewhere currently, even if work is being done ahead of the window.

The latest international break is being used to take stock of situations, and whilst no football is taking place, it allows a chance to collect thoughts and analyse squads. This work has already begun at Milan, and it likely has been ongoing since before the start of this break.

Nevertheless, with the mercato nearly open, this is where clubs seek the final bits of clarity before finalising their strategies. It seems that the Rossoneri’s strategy could be slightly different to most clubs, though.

Sky (via Milan News 24) suggest that Geoffrey Moncada and Zlatan Ibrahimovic are prioritising renewing four contracts at this stage, those being: Matteo Gabbia, Tijjani Reijnders, Theo Hernandez and Mike Maignan.

For the management, those renewals must be finalised shortly to avoid the risk of having to negotiate in the summer – a year away from when the contracts expire – so the focus is understandable. However, there has been a continued focus on adding reinforcements in the upcoming window, so the club must evenly split their focus, even if there are some matters more pressing than others.
