Andriy Shevchenko has shared his honest thoughts on the difficult season that AC Milan are having, citing issues that neither coach have managed to correct.
It has been a strange season already for Milan, who began with Paulo Fonseca at the helm before he was sacked before the calendar year had even handed, with the team struggling above all in Serie A.
Sergio Conceicao took over and managed to bring silverware after just two games, lifting the Supercoppa Italiana in Saudi Arabia, though the mood around the team is still not entirely positive.
In fact, there is already talk of a negative atmosphere and incidents such as the spat with Davide Calabria plus the defeat against Dinamo Zagreb in midweek have made Sunday’s derby even more important, if not daunting.
Shevchenko gave an interview to the newspaper La Stampa in which several topics were touched upon, of course including his beloved Milan. His comments were relayed by Calciomercato.com.
Milan decided to change coaches…
“I feel sorry for Fonseca. I know him, he is a man of great correctness and values. It seems to me that he tried to give his best to solve problems that he did not bring and that are still there.
“I hope that the turning point will be useful. Conceição gave an injection of energy in the Supercoppa but Milan have no consistency.”

Is Leao a symbol of this inconsistency?
“If Leao wants to be an important player and make history for Milan, he has to give much more. There is no question about his quality, but he is not a leader. He can become one if he takes responsibility, but the question is: does he want it?.”
How important are rules in the dressing room?
“Every coach has his own approach. The fact remains that football is simple, at least everything that revolves around it. Walking around during a match is not acceptable, if you play for Milan the pressure is there every time he steps on the pitch and you should only want what is in front of you.
“At Milan, at Inter, at Juve, you have attention, the best context, the full stadium waiting for you. What more do you want? It is absolute beauty.”
