With Sheffield Wednesday fans desperate to see someone take over from Dejphon Chansiri, fresh rumours have sparked as former Crystal Palace owner John Textor has followed the club's official Instagram account.

Chansiri has been in charge of the Owls since 2015, and the relationship between him and supporters has continuously soured over the years, before completely breaking down this summer following late payments to HMRC, failed payments to staff members and players walking out of the club.

Manager Danny Röhl left the club last week, with assistant Henrik Pedersen taking over at Hillsborough. However, the club remains in crisis.

Speaking to Football League World, Wednesday Fan Pundit Patrick McKenna outlined just how desperate he, alongside the rest of the fanbase, is to see the club undergo an ownership change soon.

"As a fan, I am absolutely desperate for new owners," said Patrick when asked whether he would have a message for Textor should he be interested in the club.

"It is imperative that someone takes over, if we are to still have a club to support. If it is Textor or another investor, please come forward, make an offer, deal with Chansiri, and take over.

"A message to Textor or any potential investor would be, 'thank you for taking the time and stress to deal with Dejphon Chansiri, and just to know that you are walking into a very difficult situation'. There is a lot of work to be done to rebuild the club in terms of physical infrastructure, revenue streams and transfer policies."

Patrick has one main demand for a potential investor, saying: "If you come in, just please be the opposite of Chansiri.

"Be transparent with fans. Don't use us as a cash cow. Build a relationship with us. This is a fan base desperate to return to normality. So, please bring that so we are never again discussing wage payments or players walking out. Whoever comes, the fanbase will be there to support you," Patrick concluded.

Other club involvement may be concerning amid Textor rumours

While Owls supporters are absolutely desperate to see the back of Chansiri, it is questionable whether Textor is the answer for anything that isn't simply a short-term move to stabilise the club.

The American businessman already has majority shares in French club Lyon, Brazilian outfit Botafogo and Belgian club RWDM Brussels.

Textor was also at the centre of a confusing saga involving Crystal Palace and Lyon this summer, as he also owned a majority share in the Premier League club.

With Palace and Lyon both qualifying for the Europa League, the Eagles have been demoted to the UEFA Conference League due to UEFA's multi-club ownership rules forbidding clubs under the same ownership group from competing in the same competition.

Textor sold his shares in the club; however, this was too late when compared to the official cutoff point to do so in June.

As a result of this, Textor may wish to continue his involvement in English football.

However, the biggest club at the centre of his portfolio, Lyon, were almost relegated to the French Ligue 2 as a result of the heaps of debt the club found itself in under Textor.

For Wednesday fans, Textor could offer a short-term reprieve regarding the stabilising of the club. However, the club would have to be placed in proper safe hands to secure their long-term future as a club that, by rights, should be competing for a place in the Premier League.
