Sheffield Wednesday are targeting a move for the 19-year-old
Sheffield Wednesday are considering a move for Manchester City prospect Jaden Heskey, according to recent reports.
The Owls kicked off their Championship campaign with a 2-1 defeat at Leicester City, showing great spirit throughout the contest.
Manager Henrik Pedersen is keen to add to his squad in the final stages of the transfer window and has turned his sights to some Premier League talent in recent times.
The Steel City side are still yet to make a single addition this summer due to owner Dejphon Chansiri’s financial woes, which saw Wednesday restricted in their business by various transfer embargoes.
A number of those embargoes have now been lifted, which means that the Owls can complete some transfer dealings but are still under strict parameters as to what they can and can’t do by the English Football League’s Club Financial Reporting Unit.
According to the Sheffield Star, Sheffield Wednesday are believed to be one of a number of clubs that are keen on a swoop for Manchester City’s Heskey.
The 19-year-old attacking midfielder, who is the son of former England international Emile Heskey, has shone in City’s youth system, even spending time with Pep Guardiola’s senior side.
It’s thought that the Premier League outfit are seeking a loan move for Heskey to further his development, with Wednesday keeping tabs on the situation as they finally look to commence some transfer business.
A number of other clubs are believed to be in the mix for the young talent, which may force the Owls to act with some urgency in their pursuit of the deal.
Wednesday look like they are profiling young talent from Premier League clubs as they aim to get whatever business falls within their specific boundaries done.
Manchester United duo Harry Amass and Toby Collyer have been linked with a switch to Hillsborough, although a move for the former is currently more likely at this moment in time.
Wednesday showed during their defeat to Leicester City that despite the club’s issues behind the scenes, they have an overwhelming amount of spirit and fight within the group, with players who are determined to beat the drop this term.
Adding some exciting young talent to that mix would only improve the atmosphere at Hillsborough, giving supporters some unknown quantities to get behind and support throughout the campaign.
The Owls wouldn’t have much to lose and can’t spend anything on transfers due to their EFL embargoes, so taking a gamble on some Premier League talent doesn’t present any drawbacks at this moment in time.
The reality is that Wednesday need to take what they can get right now, as they have a threadbare squad after many departures this summer. Rolling the dice on Heskey may well be worth it, then, with the versatile attacker having built up an encouraging reputation and plenty of promise within age-group football.
