The Blades may part ways with their boss this summer.

Sheffield United are set to make a decision on manager Chris Wilder following the club's failure to win promotion back to the Premier League at the first time of asking.

It was heavily reported on Thursday that the owners of the Blades, COH Sports, were set to hold a meeting to discuss the future of their United-supporting boss. Wilder guided the team to 92 points last season - 90 when you include the two points that they were deducted - but failed to get them over the line in a heart-breaking late loss to Sunderland in the play-off final.

As is often the case with new ownership groups, they don't always stick with what they inherited forever, and now Wilder is on the chopping block.

In the scenario in which Wilder is booted out the door, Football League World's Blades fan pundit, Jimmy from the Blades Ramble, has revealed the two managerial options that he would like to see take the reins at Bramall Lane.

Sheffield United should go after Leicester City targets if they sack Chris Wilder

"Firstly, Wilder would be my choice to stay," he stated. "If I had any option, I'd want Chris Wilder to remain the manager of Sheffield United. I believe he's the man to lead us forward.

"However, if we are going to make a change, I'll give you two names. There's one that, had it been a year ago, would've been the ideal candidate, and that's Liam Rosenior. I think he's gone on to show what a good manager he is in France, and I think it makes him unattainable now for Sheffield United, unfortunately.

"So I think the best option for Sheffield United, in a similar vein to what we've got currently in a lot of ways, I think we should go for Sean Dyche. I think that would take us close to where we want to be. I think we'd certainly compete at the top end of the table. I think he'd be a really solid choice.

"We don't know whether that's the route that the owners want to go down. Maybe they want to go away from managers like Dyche. Maybe they want to go for a younger, more progressive manager, so we'll have to wait and see because it's untested, which makes it unpredictable."

Any Chris Wilder successor will face a very daunting task

Both Dyche and Rosenior have been linked with taking over from the Blades' new Championship rivals Leicester City, but they are yet to officially decide on the future of their manager either.

They would make for interesting replacements for United, certainly, but it would be very harsh on Wilder to sack him. Yes, the ultimate goal of promotion was not achieved, but he got them one of the highest ever points tallies for a side that didn't go up and he has a great connection with the supporters.

It would be a very risky move to get rid of the 57-year-old, almost no matter who replaced him.
