This was Neil MacFarlane’s first taste of league action since becoming head coach of the team.

It was a good start from the young Bees as they settled into a good rhythm.

Julian Eyestone was the first keeper to be called into action though as he made a smart stop to deny Louie Marsh.

Despite the positive start, a loose ball back to Eyestone was intercepted by Sai Sachdev who laid the ball off for Tyrese Campbell to tuck easily into the net.

Eyestone had to remain sharp as Campbell almost had his second, pouncing on another loose pass at the back but the left leg of the Brentford shot-stopper was enough to keep the score at only 1-0.

The young Bees were passing the ball well in spells but it was the young Blades who were creating the chances and Marsh went close, smashing just wide from inside the box.

Trialist A made a great clearance off the line to deny the home side their second of the game after a strike from Evan Easton.

On the stroke of the half-time whistle though, the home side’s lead was doubled as Easton arriving late into the box, tucked the ball away past Eyestone.

The Blades scored their third a minute into the second half as Chanse Headman was adjudged to have handled the ball in the box. Marsh stepped up and sent the keeper the wrong way.

Owen Hampson made it four just after the hour mark, striking from inside the penalty area.

Emeka Peters and Kaya Hall did make their competitive debuts for the Under-21s side coming on for the latter parts of the game.

Isaac Holland had a good chance to give the team a goal, but his left-footed shot was parried away by Luke Faxon in goal.

Ashley Hay was then presented with a good chance to score as Ethan Brierley lofted a fantastically well-timed ball behind the home side’s defence but the striker’s attempted lob was comfortable for Faxon.

Sam Aston, a second-half substitute made it five for the home side stroking past Eyestone from outside the box.

Ryan One added a sixth just before the full-time whistle.

That was how the game would end as the young Bees suffer a heavy defeat in their first game of the season.

Ryan One added a sixth just before the full-time whistle.

The Under-21s will be in action next, on Monday 26 August as they play their first home league fixture at Wheatsheaf Park against Coventry City Under-21s. Tickets for that are available here.
