Sheffield United's Croatian goalkeeper Ivo Grbic has joined top-flight Turkish side Fatih Karagümrük on a season-long loan following a struggle for game time at Bramall Lane.

The 29-year-old has been somewhat of a journeyman throughout his career so far having played for six different clubs in his eight-year spell as a professional, including the likes of European giants Athletico Madrid and Lille.

The goalkeeper signed for the Blades in January 2024 for an undisclosed fee in a deal that is valid until 2027.

After kicking off his career in his native country with Croatian side Hajduk Split, Grbic caught the eye of big European clubs but has struggled to cement his place as a first-choice keeper wherever the destination.

When signing for Sheffield United, Grbic said via BBC Sport, "I've played in some good leagues in France and Spain, and played in the Champions League with Lille and played 15 or 16 games for Atletico last season which is a big club. I know I am ready now for this challenge."

However, Grbic's game time has been a rarity in a Blades shirt, merely making nine appearances for the Blades before being loaned out to Turkish side Rizespor where he made 22 league appearances last season.

With the goalkeeper setting sail for Turkey for a second consecutive season, the Croatian looks to revive his career that never really got started for Sheffield United.

His exit has been met with sympathy with one Blades fan commenting via X, "I'm not sure we will miss him. Just never happened for him at the Lane. Good luck though Ivo"

Despite some fans showing their support for the Croatian, the announcement on Sheffield United's X page was met with mixed opinions, with other fans worried about the insufficient transfer activity of the Blades in this window.

One Blades fan commented via X, "Are you gonna make any signings? Preferably permanents."

With the Blades signings of Louie Barry and Djibril Soumare being arrivals that will excite those at Bramall Lane, the lack of transfer activity in other areas of the pitch may be a worry for fans.

With there being plenty to talk about in the form of outgoings at Sheffield United, what fans really want to know is who's coming in the door.
