Shameless journalists take it too far – Eddie Howe has had enough | OneFootball

Eddie Howe met the media today.

The Newcastle United Head Coach speaking to journalists ahead of the Fulham match tomorrow.

A win would see Newcastle United sitting top of the table on Saturday night.

Early this Friday morning I had an article published by The Mag.

In that article, I said that even though there were countless things that Eddie Howe could be asked about at today’s press conference that were relevant to Saturday’s match at Craven Cottage, not least the top of the table question, the reality would be that certain shameless journalists would be only interested in one thing.

That of course being, yet more endless questioning about Newcastle United Sporting Director Paul Mitchell.

Certain journalists are desperate to stir things up as much as possible and get to their end game of hoping either Eddie Howe or Paul Mitchell is pressured out, hopefully both (in the eyes of some journalists).

I said in that article this morning, I would be amazed if no journalist didn’t yet again ask Eddie Howe the same same question(s) they have already asked at countless press conferences already.

It is plain embarrassing.

The really shameful thing is that these journalists will claim that they have to ask these things on behalf of the Newcastle United fans! That it is their duty.

Well, they don’t speak for me.

They don’t ask these endless questions on my behalf, with the only aim to unsettle Eddie Howe and harm Newcastle United.

I said this morning, in my view, enough is enough.

It is now three weeks since the summer 2024 transfer window ended.

It is four months until the January 2025 transfer window opens.

The journalists have to call a halt to this endless asking of the same same questions to Eddie Howe, where the only intention is to cause trouble and unrest for him.

My opinion was that if any journalists persisted in doing the same today, the club should kick them out, escort them from the premises and tell them they are no longer welcome.

A bit like a court case where if the defence or prosecution is seen to be taking it too far to be unfairly and for too long badgering somebody giving evidence, the judge will step in and tell them no more, they are out of order.

As Newcastle United fans we are sick of this now.

Surprise surprise, Eddie Howe turns up this morning and is swiftly asked by a journalist… has he had any conversations with Newcastle United Sporting Director Paul Mitchell (pictured above) since the last time the media asked this question!

Ahead of the trip to Craven Cottage, Howe was asked whether he has had any conversations with Mitchell this week.

Eddie Howe his usual calm and collected self but clearly sick of this ridiculous and never ending line of questioning.

What is the point? Why are these journalists embarrassing themselves time after time? Why would Eddie Howe tell them anything that has gone on?

If he and Paul Mitchell had ended up having a massive scrap, if they had kissed and made up (if needing to…), if they had just blanked each other in the corridors of power at St James’ Park?

Any of these things if they had happened, why feed journalists anything when they are simply going to twist whatever they say?

Instead, Eddie Howe having this to say to the assembled journalists:

“I am not going go into it every week, in terms of our contact (between Eddie Howe and Paul Mitchell).

“But collaboration, as I said last week, is what we are looking to do to take the club forward.

“Just so people know, I have had conversations with senior members of the board (club hierarchy) this week.

“So I am in regular communication with them.

“Trying to collaborate and work together for the benefit of the club.

“That is always in my heart and that will always be, while I’m manager of the club.

“I am always the first one to say that the players are the most important people.

“For me, my direct work is always about the players, trying to get them in the best frame of mind to win the matches.

“The tighter the group, the more we come together.

“Which is the better for everybody.

“I include the supporters in that… because they can directly affect the players on the pitch.

“So creating the best environment…

“The whole club united on that front, is basically all that we need to get results.

“Now the other stuff is hugely important.

“At boardroom level and behind the scenes.

“However, that is more for the transfer windows, those kind of things.

“At the moment we can’t affect that.”

So if say Newcastle United hammered Fulham, whilst Arsenal narrowly beat Man City, meaning potentially Newcastle United top of the Premier League after the weekend, would journalists at the next press conference still be only interested in asking Eddie Howe about ‘civil war’ at St James’ Park and whether Howe had spoken to Eddie Howe?

You know what, I think things have got so ridiculous these days, you would have certain shameless journalists only wanting to try and stir/create unrest at Newcastle United.
