The FIGC Federal Council has approved the formats for the 2025/26 season of Italian women's football, which includes a new addition to the calendar: the launch of a brand-new tournament, the Serie A Women’s Cup. Meanwhile, the newly-named Serie A Women campaign will officially begin on Sunday, 5 October.
As confirmed by the Federal Council on 15 April, a new competition will be played this season, and it now has a name - the Serie A Women’s Cup. Just the 12 clubs competing in the 2025/26 Serie A will take part.
The tournament will begin on Sunday, 24 August, and will unfold in two phases. In the group stage, the 12 teams will be seeded into three groups of four based on their final standings from the 2024/25 league season. Each group will play three matchdays.
The top team from each group, along with the best second-placed side, will qualify for a Final Four, which includes single-leg semi-finals and a final to determine the inaugural winner.
Following its debut season - run in an experimental format and won by Juventus Under-19 - the Women's Primavera Italian Cup will return in a more structured format.
Starting on 19 October, the tournament will include all 12 clubs from the Serie A Under-19s league. Just like the senior Serie A Women’s Cup, the teams will be divided into three groups of four, with the group winners and the best runner-upadvancing to the semifinals.
