Fali Cande joining Sassuolo could mean that Bologna accelerate their pursuit of West Bromwich Albion centre-back Torbjorn Heggem.

With just a couple of weeks of the summer transfer window to go, West Bromwich Albion will have to be active and there has been a further twist in the saga involving Torbjorn Heggem.

In what has been a relatively slow summer transfer window, the Baggies are set for a busy couple of weeks with interest in a few of their key players, such as Southampton wanting to sign Tom Fellows.

As well as that, it has been reported that Bologna are trying to sign centre-back Heggem for a fee believed to be in the region of £10 million, with negotiations between Bologna and Albion still ongoing.

There had been a suggestion that the deal could be stalling and Bologna were moving on to other targets, but one of those other targets has now completed a move elsewhere instead.

Cande move to Sassuolo means Bologna may now prioritise Heggem

Following their promotion back to Serie A last season, Sassuolo have now confirmed the signing of centre-back Fali Cande from Venezia, who were relegated down to Serie B last season.

27-year-old Cande, who came through the academy at Porto before going on to play for Portimonense, Metz and Venezia, has joined Sassuolo for an undisclosed fee.

Cande, who has earned 29 caps for the Guinea-Bissau national side, who are now coached by former Fulham and West Ham United man Luis Boa Morte, was reportedly viewed as a target by Bologna should they not manage to get a deal for Heggem over the line, according to Corriere Dello Sport, via Bologna Sport News.

Now that it has been confirmed that the former Benfica B defender has joined Sassuolo, rather than Bologna, it could mean that Bologna refocus and entirely prioritise the signing of Heggem.

Ryan Mason confirmed in his pre-match press conference ahead of their opening day defeat of Blackburn Rovers at The Hawthorns that Heggem would be available for selection, and he went on to play 90 minutes as Albion kept a clean sheet in a 1-0 victory.

Bologna finished fifth in Serie A last season and have therefore qualified for the UEFA Europa League so are looking to bolster their squad following the additions of Nicolo Casale, Martin Vitik, Ciro Immobile, Tommaso Pobega, Federico Bernadeschi and Thomas Gillier earlier this summer.

West Brom set for a busy end to the window

It has been reported that the Baggies are keen to offload Devante Cole before the end of this summer, following his disappointing move from Barnsley on a free transfer last year.

As well as that, Southampton are reportedly keen on Fellows, should Everton complete the signing of Tyler Dibling after the Toffees had a couple of bids rejected for the England U21 international.

Northern Ireland international Isaac Price, who scored the only goal of the game in their defeat of Blackburn at the weekend, has previously been linked with the likes of Burnley and Sunderland.

In terms of incomings, West Brom have been linked with a move for Nectarios Triantis, according to the Chronicle via Macken News, after the arrivals of Nat Phillips, Aune Heggebo and George Campbell earlier this summer.

The retirement of Kyle Bartley will have left them shorter than expected in central defence, and Heggem starting at the weekend is surely a good sign.

However, Bologna having seemingly missed out on their alternative to Heggem, with Cande’s move to Sassuolo now confirmed, could well be a blow for Albion and prompt Bologna to conclude a deal for the Norwegian centre-back.
