Serie A | Milan 0-0 Juventus: San Siro stalemate hits Scudetto hopes

Milan and Juventus struggled to create chances in the absence of key players and this 0-0 at San Siro does little to boost either’s Scudetto ambitions.

The Rossoneri got Matteo Gabbia back after several weeks, but Luka Jovic, Ismael Bennacer and Alessandro Florenzi were still out of action, with Christian Pulisic only fit for the bench. Juve lost Dusan Vlahovic to a muscular issue on international duty, so with Arkadiusz Milik, Vasilije Adzic, Nico Gonzalez, Gleison Bremer and Juan Cabal injured too, they opted for Teun Koopmeiners as an unusual False 9.

Koopmeiners hit the side-netting from a tricky angle and Kenan Yildiz skimmed the upright after cutting inside Emerson Royal, while the Milan full-back nodded wide after a poorly-cleared corner on the stroke of an uneventful half.

Malick Thiaw threw himself in the way of an Andrea Cambiaso angled drive when sent through, while Federico Gatti intercepted the Rafael Leao slide-rule pass to release Tijjani Reijnders.

Khephren Thuram’s curler was straight at Mike Maignan and Reijnders blasted well over from a touched-on free kick.

Rafael Leao went down under pressure from Nicolò Savona, but not enough to warrant a penalty.

Youssouf Fofana blasted over from distance, but although Pulisic coming on for the final 20 minutes certainly sparked a bit more life into the Rossoneri, 0-0 remained an accurate reflection of the game.

Theo Hernandez’s weak header straight at Michele Di Gregorio was the last opportunity and sparked jeers from the crowd.
