Dusan Vlahovic came off the bench for another decisive Juventus goal, scraping victory in Genoa after the crossbar saved them in stoppages.
The Bianconeri beat Parma 2-0 in the opening game, but Andrea Cambiaso started a two-match ban after his red card for a reaction foul, with Fabio Miretti, Juan Cabal, Arkadiusz Milik and Mattia Perin injured. After Nicolò Savona was sold to Nottingham Forest, there was a shortage of wing-backs, with Joao Mario preferred to Filip Kostic. The Grifone were held 0-0 by Lecce here and still missing Sebastian Otoa, so Patrick Vieira reshuffled his pack.
Khephren Thuram accidentally charged down a scorcher from teammate Joao Mario with his face in the opening minutes, leaving him rather dazed.
The first real shot on target was from Genoa, as Mikael Ellertsson got away from Joao Mario, cut inside and stung Michele Di Gregorio’s gloves at the near post.
Francisco Conceicao failed to make the most of a sloppy Valentin Carboni pass in the final third, as Leo Ostigard blocked him off.

Juventus thought they simply had to score on 41 minutes when Kenan Yildiz rolled across from the left for Federico Gatti to sweep first-time from 10 yards, but Nicola Leali made an astonishing one-handed reaction save at the near post.
Moments later, Leali got down incredibly quickly for another great save on the Kenan Yildiz angled drive, but Jonathan David fired the rebound over from seven yards.
Ellertsson first got away from Joao Mario, but when he had to cut back to avoid Gleison Bremer, it allowed the new signing time to throw himself in the way of the finish.
Thuram surged forward through the centre and had better options, but scuffed a shot wide from outside the area, then Johan Vasquez crucially tackled Joao Mario on another dangerous counter-attack.

Genoa threatened too, as Ellertsson escaped from Joao Mario only for desperate Pierre Kalulu and Manuel Locatelli blocks to deny both Stanciu and Lorenzo Colombo.
It was Juventus who eventually broke the deadlock with transfer rebel Vlahovic, who again came off the bench to score a crucial goal. He was allowed a free header from six yards on the Filip Kostic corner, as Genoa’s zonal marking system failed.

Vlahovic threatened another with his scorcher charged down by Patrizio Masini inside the penalty area, Kostic blasting the rebound over.
Nico Gonzalez was introduced for a late swansong, as he is heading to Atletico Madrid, but Genoa were unlucky as Morten Thorsby just failed to connect with the fantastic Brooke Norton-Cuffy ball across the six-yard box.
Genoa had two huge opportunities to equalise deep into stoppages, as first Di Gregorio got down for a sensational one-handed save to palm the Caleb Ekuban curler round the base of the far post, then on the resulting corner Masini’s header bounced off the crossbar, the goalkeeper punching away the rebound.
